Frank Austin Ireton The following obituary of my Great-Grandfather was given to me by my father, Charles Edward Ireton. I don’t know what newspaper it came from. It tells quite a bit about Frank Austin and his family though, and I thought you may find it interesting. The spelling, missing words, etc, are straight from the clipping. Hand written corrections are shown with parenthesis. I believe 'Rouesville' should have been 'Ropesville'. OBITUARY Frank Austin Ireton was born in the State of Ill., January 21, 1867 and died June 2, 1931. When three months old moved with his parents to New Port Landing, now Kansas City. At the age of 3, the family moved to Olethea, Kansas, where they lived 7 years. The family again moving west to Waverly, Kansas, where he grew to manhood. In the spring of 1883, he and brother, Charlie bought a farm near Burtlington, where they farmed until the spring of 1888. He was married to Miss Eda Forbes of Lebo, Kansas, March 3, 1888, where they lived until the spring of 1896, from this place they moved to Putman, Oklahoma, where they filed on a homestead, living there until the spring of 1912, when they moved to Oklahoma, living there for three years, then back to the farm in Oklahoma, but not being in good health finally moved again to New Mexico in the spring of 1919, staying three years, and moving from that state to Roaring Springs, Texas, where they lived three years, then to Ropes, where they have made their home for the past seven years He often moving from place, seeking a climate more suited to his health, being a sufferer for the past 23 years. To this union was born seven (sons) an illness for the past year that with their mother in her great bereavement. Mr. Ireton’s death was sudden. He had been suffering with an illness for the past year that finally proved fatal, and his passing was without warning and a distinct shock to his wife, relatives and friends. Relatives here for the funeral were: sons, Austin Ireton, of Custer City Oklahoma; Rolla Ireton, Roswell, New Mexico; Jim Ireton, Dougherty, Texas; Elmer Ireton, Lamesa Texas; Elic Ireton, Roswell, New Mexico; Henry Ireton, Fremont, Nebraska; Carl Ireton, Aubuquerque, New Mexico; Charlie Ireton, and a wife, a brother, Hutchinson Kansas; H.C. Forbes and wife (brother) of Mrs. Ireton also a sister, Mrs.Jennie Brown, of Oklahoma. Funeral services was held Thursday, June 4, 1931, at the First Baptist Church, at Rouesville. Mr. Jesse Leverett, a friend of the faimly, and Rev. W. G. Wages of Lamesa officiating. Burial took place at the Meadow Cemetary following funeral services. A group of Odd Fellow of Brownfield had charge of the burial services at the cemetary. The many friends and the beautiful floral offering that follow the remains to the resting place, showed how much he was loved by all who knew him. Being the largest funeral possession ever leaving here. A precious one from us has gone but there will always remain sweet and dear memories. He was good and kind to all and will be missed by the entire town and surrounding country.
